The Fitbit Edge Obsidian is the darkest finish of Google’s new Fitbit Edge tracker: a matte black aluminium case paired with the black Obsidian Active Band. It is the version that looks the same under a gym sleeve, on a weekday commute and at a family dinner, and the one that hides sweat marks and scuffs best. Inside is the full Fitbit Edge: a 1.3-inch always-on AMOLED screen under Gorilla Glass 3, built-in GPS with Galileo, an altimeter, electrical sensors for the ECG app, more than 50 exercise modes and up to 7 days per charge in Google’s test, with a battery that can be replaced. Google announced the Fitbit Edge on 12 October 2026 at $179.99 in the US. Totot sells the Fitbit Edge Obsidian brand-new and sealed as an imported unit.

The Fitbit Edge Obsidian finish up close
Google lists this model as a Matte Black aluminium case with an Obsidian Active Band. Matte means no mirror shine, so the case does not flash under bright gym lights or in a mirror. The black band blends into the dark glass around the screen, which makes the Fitbit Edge Obsidian look like one continuous strip on the wrist rather than a gadget with a metal frame. It is the familiar, quiet option of the four colours, and it hides chalk dust, sweat lines and small scuffs better than the pale Fog band or the Champagne Gold Canyon case. The Active Band is silicone with a soft-touch coating, so it wipes clean after a session.
Who the Obsidian colour suits
Black goes with sports kit of any brand, a dark office shirt and casual weekend clothes, so there is nothing to match. That makes the Fitbit Edge Obsidian the safe pick when you are unsure which colour to choose, a sensible first tracker, and an easy gift for someone whose taste you do not know. It is also the easiest base to restyle: Google sells extra Fitbit Edge bands separately, and a black case does not clash with any of them. Both band sizes are in the box, small for wrists of 130–170 mm and large for 170–210 mm, so fit is rarely a problem.
Training with the Fitbit Edge Obsidian
The gym and the running track are where this tracker earns its place. Google lists more than 50 exercise modes with automatic activity recognition, so a brisk session is still logged if you forget to press start. Built-in GPS with Galileo records outdoor runs and rides without carrying a phone, and the altimeter counts climbs. In the Google Health app you get Cardio Load, VO2 Max, a daily Readiness score and Active Zone Minutes to help decide between a hard day and an easy one. A mechanical side button gives tactile control when your fingers are sweaty, which is easier than tapping a wet screen between sets.
Health sensors and regional limits
The Fitbit Edge Obsidian carries an optical heart rate sensor, red and infrared sensors for SpO2, two temperature sensors, and electrical sensors compatible with the ECG app. Google lists AFib detection, irregular, high and low heart rate notifications, advanced sleep tracking and menstrual cycle tracking. Google states that the ECG app is available only in select countries and is not intended for people under 22, and that blood pressure and insulin resistance trends are part of the paid Google Health Premium plan, vary by region and are for general wellness only. Google does not list the UAE among Google Health Premium countries, so treat those extras as unavailable here.
The rest, in brief
The 65 mAh lithium-ion battery lasts up to 7 days with default settings and Battery Saver features in Google’s test, charges fully in about 90 minutes, and gives up to a day from a 5-minute charge when low. The battery is user-replaceable, which extends the tracker’s life. The case measures 39.2 × 25.6 × 11.6 mm and weighs 17.7 g without the band, or 32 g with it. It is rated 5 ATM and IP68, connects over Bluetooth 5.4, and runs on an Ambiq AP5 chip with 64 MB of storage.
Who This Is Not For
The Fitbit Edge Obsidian is not a full smartwatch: there is no app store and no mobile network, and it needs a phone running Android 11 or newer or iOS 16.4 or higher, plus a Google Account and the Google Health app. Google does not sell it officially in the UAE, the ECG app is limited to select countries and to people aged 22 or over, and Google Health Premium is not offered in the UAE. GPS use and the always-on screen shorten battery life below 7 days. Anyone wanting a bright or jewellery-like colour should look at Canyon or Olive instead.
