Sound quality and 32-bit float
The DJI Mic 2 handles up to 120 dB SPL with an equivalent noise level of 21 dBA, which in plain terms means it can sit next to a loud subject without distorting and stay quiet on a whisper. Frequency response runs 50 Hz to 20 kHz with the low cut off, or 100 Hz to 20 kHz with it engaged.
Each transmitter records internally in 32-bit float, so the level is set afterwards in editing rather than gambled on beforehand. Intelligent noise cancelling runs on the transmitter itself and strips out steady background sound – traffic, air conditioning, room hum – before it ever reaches your camera.
250 metres of range
DJI rates the DJI Mic 2 at up to 250 metres under FCC and 160 metres under CE, on GFSK at 1 and 2 Mb/s over 2.400 to 2.4835 GHz. That is a genuinely long working distance – enough to mic a subject across a hall, a pitch or a car park while the camera stays put.
The receiver has a touchscreen for levels and settings, and there is a Bluetooth link on the transmitter side as well. Camera connection is by 3.5 mm TRS cable, and mobile phone adapters for USB-C and Lightning are both in the box.
Battery and the charging case
Each transmitter and the receiver carry a 360 mAh cell rated at about 6 hours, recharging in around 70 minutes. The charging case holds an 18650 cell at 3,250 mAh and 11.7 Wh, giving roughly two more full cycles for two transmitters and one receiver, and it refills in about 2 hours 40 minutes.
