The Shokz OpenDots ONE Black are the first clip-on earbuds Shokz made: each bud hooks around the edge of the ear like a cuff and rests the speaker in front of the ear canal instead of inside it. Shokz pairs two drivers per bud in its Bassphere system with Dolby Audio, lets either bud go in either ear, and rates them at up to 10 hours per charge and 40 hours with the case. The earbuds are IP54 and the case charges on a Qi pad. Here is what sets this model apart from the newer clip-ons, and what an open design costs.

Shokz OpenDots ONE vs OpenDots 2 and OpenDots Air
Shokz has made three clip-on models, and the Shokz OpenDots ONE was the first. It sits between the other two. Against the Shokz OpenDots Air Black, it adds Dolby Audio, a Qi wireless charging case and 40 hours in place of 36; the Air has the better water rating on paper (IP55 against IP54).
The Shokz OpenDots 2 Black, launched in June 2026, is the newer flagship with Bassphere 2.0, a bone conduction call mic and IP57 earbuds. Choose the Shokz OpenDots ONE if you want Dolby Audio and wireless charging in the original clip-on shape without paying for the newest generation.
Bassphere and Dolby Audio
Open earbuds struggle with bass because nothing seals the sound in. The Shokz OpenDots ONE answers with Bassphere: two circular drivers combined into one speaker unit. Shokz Asia describes them as dual 11.8 mm drivers with acoustic performance comparable to a 16 mm driver.
Dolby Audio is off by default and is switched on in the Shokz App. The app also holds four preset EQ modes and two custom profiles, and DirectPitch technology steers the sound toward the ear to limit leakage.
Either bud, either ear: the black clip design
Dynamic Ear Detection works out which ear each bud is on and routes left and right channels accordingly, so the buds are interchangeable. Smart wear detection pauses music when you take one off. The JointArc that links the speaker to the battery is nickel-titanium and flexes to fit, with a soft silicone grip. One universal size; each bud weighs 6.5 g ± 0.2 g and the case 39 g ± 2 g.
In black, the Shokz OpenDots ONE reads more like a discreet ear cuff than a gadget, and it hides scuffs and make-up marks better than paler shades. Shokz also offered it in Grey, Pink and Red.
Battery, quick charge and wireless charging
Shokz rates the Shokz OpenDots ONE at up to 10 hours of music per charge and 40 hours with the case. At maximum volume, Shokz gives 7 hours per charge. For calls, it lists 6.3 hours per charge typical (5.5 hours at maximum volume) and 25 hours with the case.
A 10-minute quick charge gives 2 hours of listening. The earbuds charge in about 1 hour; the case takes 2 hours by USB-C cable or 4 hours on a Qi-certified wireless pad. Standby reaches up to 30 days.
Controls, calls and connection
Touch controls sit on the battery compartment and the JointArc: taps for playback, a pinch on the battery compartment, and a customisable triple tap or long press for track skipping. For calls, the Shokz OpenDots ONE uses four microphones with AI noise cancellation, which works on your voice only; the listening side has no noise cancelling.
Bluetooth 5.4 with a 10 m range, and MultiPoint for two devices at once. Shokz does not publish codec support for this model.
Sound leakage and the open-ear trade-off
With the ear canal open you keep hearing traffic, colleagues and announcements. DirectPitch reduces how much sound escapes, but in a quiet office or lift at high volume the person next to you may still hear it. There is no passive isolation and no ANC, so on a plane or a loud metro you will raise the volume rather than shut the noise out.
Who This Is Not For
Commuters and flyers who want silence, and listeners who want the deep sub-bass pressure of sealed in-ear earbuds. People who play music loudly in quiet shared spaces. Swimmers: IP54 covers sweat and splashes, not submersion, and Shokz does not give the case a rating.
Anyone who wants the latest hardware: Shokz lists the Shokz OpenDots ONE as discontinued on its US store now that the OpenDots 2 is out, so new colours and features will arrive on the newer model.
