Battery: what each figure means
Huawei publishes four battery figures for the HUAWEI WATCH GT 6 46mm. Up to 21 days is the light-use number, measured with factory settings, automatic workout detection switched off, heart rate and sleep monitoring on, 90 minutes of exercise a week, 30 minutes each of Bluetooth calls and music a week, and 200 screen wake-ups a day. Up to 12 days is typical use, up to 7 days applies with always-on display, and outdoor sport mode with positioning runs for up to 40 hours. Charging is wireless on the cradle in the box, with a 5V to 10V DC, 2A maximum charger requirement; Huawei does not publish a charge time.
Stainless steel case and black strap
The HUAWEI WATCH GT 6 46mm case is stainless steel, 46 × 46 × 10.95 mm, and weighs about 51.3 g without the strap. The Black version uses a fluoroelastomer strap for wrists of 140 to 210 mm; Huawei also lists the 46mm with a green composite woven strap and a grey composite leather strap. Fluoroelastomer suits the gym, the pool and UAE summers because it rinses clean and does not absorb sweat like leather, and black hides wear and marks. Controls are a rotating crown that acts as the Home button and a side button.
1.47-inch AMOLED display
The HUAWEI WATCH GT 6 46mm display is a 1.47-inch AMOLED at 466 × 466 pixels and 317 PPI. Huawei states up to 3000 nits peak brightness, measured in its labs at 30% average picture level, and notes that real brightness changes with the environment. Huawei also says the 46mm screen is 5.5% larger than the GT 5 46mm. Peak brightness is a short-burst figure, not the level the screen holds all day, but it is what keeps the face readable in direct sun.
Positioning, running and cycling
The watch supports GPS (L1 + L5), GLONASS, BeiDou (B1I + B1C + B2a), Galileo (E1 + E5a), QZSS (L1 + L5) and NavIC. Huawei claims its Sunflower Positioning System gives 20% better positioning accuracy, a figure based on comparing the HUAWEI WATCH GT 6 46mm with the GT 5 46mm. There are 100+ sports modes, and Huawei lists virtual cycling power and real-time cadence without a power meter or cadence sensor, delivered through an OTA update. A barometer, gyroscope and magnetometer support altitude and heading data.
Health tracking and its limits
On the HUAWEI WATCH GT 6 46mm, Huawei lists heart rate, SpO2, stress, HRV, sleep and women’s health tracking, plus arrhythmia alerts for potential atrial fibrillation and premature beats powered by the PPG sensor. There is no ECG sensor in the GT 6 sensor list. Huawei says the watch is not a medical device, that the arrhythmia feature is not suitable for users under 18, and that health data is for reference only. Emotional wellbeing readings are limited to some regions, are unavailable during sleep or exercise, and do not work with 32-bit Android phones.
Calls, NFC, phones and water
A speaker and microphone handle Bluetooth calls while the watch is connected to your phone through the HUAWEI Health app. NFC is supported and Bluetooth is version 6.0 (BR + BLE). The HUAWEI WATCH GT 6 46mm works with Android 9.0 or later and iOS 13.0 or later. It is rated 5 ATM under ISO 22810:2010 and IP69 under IEC 60529:2013; Huawei explains that 5 ATM does not mean use at 50 m depth, and the watch should not be worn for diving, hot showers or saunas.
Who This Is Not For
The HUAWEI WATCH GT 6 46mm is a large watch at about 51.3 g before the strap, and the 46 mm case can overhang slim wrists; the 41mm GT 6 is lighter at about 37.5 g. It has no ECG sensor. Huawei does not promise that every feature behaves the same on iPhone as on Android, and some health features are limited by region. It is not a diving watch.
